A Feature Story: Maraming Salamat Po, Marawi Kid

A Feature Story: Maraming Salamat Po, Marawi Kid

A Feature Story: Maraming Salamat Po, Marawi Kid (Thank You, Marawi Kid) With what we see with Capt. Edith A. Vera, this legacy continues Booooom!!! With the deafening sounds of the guns and bombs, roaring helicopters and other high powered armors in Marawi, some of the dwellers took refuge to Dumaguete City, “The City of Gentle People”. The shouting, screaming for help, and shivering knees of helpless kids tried to escape from the ruthless, yet still Filipino brothers of ours. Their parents made an escape. They looked for a refuge to a place that even for a moment, they would feel safe, far away from the fighting Marawi to different areas in the Philippines as their temporary abode until the war has ended, only some chose Dumaguete as their temporary place while the war was still ongoing. With a heart to share, comes in the Negros Maritime College Foundation, Incorporated. It is from the footsteps of our dear Founder, Capt. Edith C. Vera, Philippine Coastguard Auxiliary, of which the legacy, the leaders of today’s NMCFI continues. As she started good deeds, to touch lives… to comfort emotions… to wipe off tears… to fill in empty stomach… to dress up the helpless…to give smile in the face.  That’s what we want to follow. She is our forever mother, our friend, our confidant, our model, our leader. As Captain Vera started, then here we  are, we followed her footsteps. ‘Twas a sunny morning of August 1, 2017, the NMCFI family, the administration, faculty, staff, and cadets and cadettes alike, gathered and grouped by cluster, thus each one could experience in personally giving gifts of the  day’s  adopted Christian and Muslim Marawi war victims, consisting of youth and kids. More than 50 packs of goodies, balloons, food packs, school supplies, books, and clothes were given to children of  Marawi siege. A simple smile was an expression of saying, “Maraming Salamat Po”. From the war-zone area in Marawi City, some of the school children took refuge and studied at the child-friendly West City Elementary School, located at Cervantes St., Dumaguete City. Patient teachers of different levels  served as their counselors to let them feel of their security in our very own Dumaguete City. For a day’s sharing of time and blessings, the essence of our 23rd Founder’s Anniversary became worth memorable,  enriching, and touching. Hats off to everyone.
